How many LINUX users are there?

Lots! Today (29 Jul 2001), the Linux Counter Project says about 17 million. Last time I updated this was about 3 years ago and I just changed it from a 3-7 million estimate as it stood at that time.

Interoperation with other OSs

Macintosh

netatalk.

But, look at asun, also. It's a bunch of patches to netatalk.

While you're at it, grab a copy of MacTCP to get things going.

Microsoft

Samba....'nuff said.

Databases

Linux on Sybase

Sybase has released the client libraries some time ago, and we're working on releasing ports of a few other products soon. I'll keep notice of our progress here. Suffice it to say that Sybase is seriously considering Linux ports of several key products.

Linux on Informix

There's a group and a mailing list devoted to this, but it hasn't happened yet, either. Check out the mailing list archives (only searchable, not browsable.)
